Care tips

Watering

Allow the top inch of soil to dry before watering. Water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain away. Avoid overwatering as this can cause root rot. Increase humidity by misting the leaves occasionally.

Light

Place in bright, indirect light. It can tolerate lower light but will thrive in medium to bright filtered sunlight. Avoid direct sunlight which can scorch the leaves. Rotate the plant regularly for even growth.

Temperature

Maintain temperatures between 15-27°C. It can tolerate slightly cooler temperatures, but not below 13°C. Avoid sudden temperature changes and draughts. Provide a stable and warm environment for optimum growth.

Meet the grower

Gerrit Stolze

Kentiakwekerij Gerrit Stolze is a member of Decorum. Like all other members, this grower is carefully selected with one goal in mind: to grow the highest quality plants under the Decorum brand. Since 1980, Kentiakwekerij Gerrit Stolze has been growing a very special product: the Kentia. This palm is grown exclusively on a small island near Australia, Lord Howe. This is where the plant got its name, Howea forsteriana. In the wild on the island, the kentia grows into large 'trees' and the locals pick the seeds. The seeds germinate and grow into small plants, which are then shipped to the Netherlands. Gerrit Stolze is environmentally conscious and uses organic pesticides. Before the kentias are big enough to be sold, they are often several years old and have been repotted several times. When sorting them, which is done by hand, Gerrit makes sure that the plants are sufficiently bushy and that the leaves are well distributed.
